Welcome! I'm Megan and I'm here to help family tree climbers beat the "I'm too busy" blues. That's why I started Family Tree Time, especially after I didn't take my own advice years ago - I never visited that old aunt, who took many family stories to the grave.
As a Freelance Researcher on episodes of 'Who Do You Think You Are?' (Aust) and as a nationally published writer (eg Inside History magazine), I know how to work fast yet smart, whether you want me to
I work to your budget and your schedule (even after work or weekends). I invite you to explore my website, and contact me to take those first steps in starting or progressing with your family tree
Thanks to all who entered my Get Organised competition, from beginners through to advanced researchers - all with one thing in common, a desire to get some help with organising the wonderful but frustrating computer and paper chaos that comes with doing family tree research!
The winner, Jenny M from the ACT, summed up the dilemma beautifully -
"Overwhelm describes 25 years of information collecting to a tee!! Relatives call me the family tree expert but the information is useless and inaccessible to anyone but me in its current state. I fear it will all have been for nothing."
So I spent two jam-packed sessions with Jenny to assess her situation and understand her priorities, and provided her with tips, demonstrations, and suggestions to think about, with the aim of organising her existing collection, as well as making it easier to continue with her research and ultimately share all her hard work.
I'm happy to hear that Jenny has actioned many of the things we discussed, and has had some great breakthroughs in her research as a result. Read what Jenny has to say about the value of the Get Organised sessions on the Testimonials webpage here on the Family Tree Time website.
Please email me if you would like to have an organising session like Jenny - this can be done in as many sessions as you like, by phone, internet or even in person (depending on location).
Many thanks to all who entered the competition, and congratulations Jenny!
"We recently received a copy of "How To Get More Family Tree Time" by Megan Gibson. Megan is a freelance researcher who has done work for private clients, as well as researching several episodes of the Australian series 'Who Do You Think You Are?' - no doubt her work in TV production led to many of the tips in this book!
The tips - and there are 50 of them - are divided into well organised chapters that make the book a great reference tool as well as a pleasing cover-to-cover read. Each suggested time-saving maxim is supported by practical, personal experience from Megan, so you get to see how these things translate into the real world.
But it's not just for the time poor genealogist. This book is also great for beginners as it's packed with useful information for those starting out. So if this sounds like a book you or someone you know would be interested in - Christmas is just around the corner..." Book Review, ancestry.com.au e-newsletter, Nov 2010
