As a long-time family tree climber, and freelance researcher for episodes of ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ (Australia), Megan has up-to-date knowledge and contacts when it comes to family tree research.
Whether you have one single mystery to solve, or want Megan on the case for longer term research, you’re likely to save yourself time and money by delegating to a professional. Confidentiality assured, if you want it.
NOTE: Megan is not able to take on new research clients until further notice. Meantime you may be interested in reading her book to help you start or progress with your research.
As a freelance interviewer and writer for several national magazines, including Inside History, as well as being the author of the book “How To Get More Family Tree Time - Tips for the Time Poor!”, Megan can passionately bring your family’s story to life, in articles, books, website content and more. Contact Megan today for a free quote.
Because every project is different, there is no “set” fee, so Megan charges an hourly rate. For example, some research is completed quickly and easily, other research takes longer, depending on the complexity of the mystery. Writing projects could range from a media release through to writing a family history from scratch.
Megan will chat with you about what you want to achieve, and give you an estimate of what that may cost.
Once a fee has been agreed, you generally pay up-front. (Part payments by arrangement only.) You’ll also need to allow for incidental costs such as international phone calls, photocopying, cost of certificates, products etc.
We work to your budget, big or small, and your schedule. Contact Megan today for a free quote.
As in life, there are no guarantees with genealogy and family history research. Your ancestor may be found in five minutes, or may still prove elusive after hours or days of research. This all depends on what, if anything, exists about your ancestor. You are paying for Megan’s time and expertise, and though she would love to be able to find your ancestor quickly, this isn’t always the case. You can at least rest assured that you've tried.
Just like “how much will it cost?”, the answer will be different in each case. Megan can chat with you to give you an estimate. It’s usually best to work in small chunks of time. Then you and Megan can review the progress, and decide on the next steps.
Megan will chat with you about the final outcome you’re after, and give you a suggested timeframe.
You set your own pace with coaching, as we work to your budget and your schedule. If catching up with Megan is best for you after standard work hours, or over the weekend, this can usually be arranged.
Megan loves speaking at events about genealogy and family history, and her experiences working as a freelance researcher (including ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ Australia).
Topics can be tailored to your event, whether it be a fun talk about timesaving tips, or a behind the scenes look at working as a researcher in TV, and much more.
Having an experienced TV researcher and author with interesting stories and practical tips at your event will help promote your society and event to a wider audience, and ensure they have a memorable time when they get there. Family history groups often gain new members from Megan's talk as she always encourages non-members in the audience to join up! With Megan's publicity background, she is happy to assist if required, in generating publicity for the event.
Recent speaking topics include “How To Get More Family Tree Time – Tips for the Time Poor!”, and “Researching Famous Aussies for Who Do You Think You Are?”. Megan has presented talks at the Unlock the Past Genealogy Expo (Adelaide, Sydney) and around Australia including for the Young & District Family History Group (NSW), Southern Peninsula Family History Society (VIC), Hornsby Library (NSW), the National Archives of Australia (on "Shake Your Family Tree Day") (ACT), Geelong Heritage Centre Open Day (VIC) and others. Megan is scheduled to talk at other events soon, so get in and book her, before it's too late.

Family Tree Time is a small part-time business, so hours of availability vary. The best way to contact Megan is to send an email, and she’ll get back to you as soon as she can, depending on research and other commitments. Generally you should hear back within 48 hours.
You are welcome to phone Mon-Sat 10am to 5pm, or Megan can be available after standard work hours or on weekends by prior arrangement, if that suits you better. If the phone is unanswered, Megan may be immersed in researching or writing by a deadline, but do leave a message.
Right here on this website, using the secure PayPal payment system, with or without a credit card, any time of the day or night!
